Fairy Stone State Park will honor National Public Lands Day by hosting a workday designed to offer volunteers the opportunity to help restore, improve, and protect our shared public land. Participants will discuss the reasons invasive plants pose such a serious threat to our environment and the actions we can all take to reduce their impact. No experience is necessary, and all tools and supplies will be provided. Volunteers are only asked to bring water and bug spray! Protective clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended. 12 p.m. Nature's Invaders Discover how invasive species threaten native habitats. 12:30 p.m. Invasive Plant Species Removal Join us as we work to remove invasive plants such as Japanese stiltgrass and autumn olive. 2 p.m. Native Plants & Pollinators Discover the amazing connection native plants and pollinators share and how we can support them. 2:30 p.m. Seed Bomb Workshop & Tree Planting Create seed bombs and then launch them into some of our pollinator areas to help Virginia native wildflowers grow.
