Owl Prowl: Park After Dark

Owl Prowl: Park After Dark

Sunday, October 4, 2026 · 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Lake Anna State Park — 6800 Lawyers Rd., Spotsylvania, VA

Take a wander in the woods with a ranger as the moon and stars guide our path, and we celebrate the silent flyers of the night, the owls of Lake Anna State Park, by calling out to owls and seeing "whoooo" hoots back! We will learn how the owl became known as a symbol of wisdom, get to learn what makes these birds of prey so suitable for being the night watch of the forest, their roles in the ecosystem, and what we can do to protect owls once we leave the park.

What to Expect

This family-friendly program will include a short hike with many stops along a fully paved trail. You may bring a red flashlight or red headlamp with a red light setting to reduce disruption of nocturnal wildlife and preserve our own night vision. Alternatively, a ranger can provide you with red cellophane to cover your flashlight. Youth must be accompanied by an adult for this program.
