Ever wondered what happened at Kiptopeke before it became a state park? How about where it got its name? Why is the Eastern Shore of Virginia so geologically unique, and what makes it a world-famous hot spot for birdwatching? What are those mysterious concrete ships doing in the water? Learn these answers and many more on a ranger-led hike highlighting the park's distinctive human and natural history. The hike is about one mile in length and easy. There is a moderate length flight of stairs on the route. The hike can be adjusted to bypass the stairs if needed or desired; just notify the ranger leading the hike before it starts if you are uncomfortable ascending them. Please wear closed toe shoes.
