Speaker: Jillian Epstein, Wesleyan University December 12, 2026 5:00 – 5:45 pm How to Make a Solar System Work throughout the past few decades has revealed that the galaxy is full of solar systems around other stars, many of which are very different from our own. How did these solar systems form? How do we reveal the formation history of our own solar system? What does the future hold for the study of solar system formation? From the star in the center to the most distant planets, we’ll explore the full story of how we get from a cloud of gas to a planet like the one we stand on today. Jillian Epstein is a graduate student of astronomy at Wesleyan University. Her research focuses on protoplanetary disks, or the disks of material around young stars that eventually form planets.
