Local poet Matthew E. Henry will be reading selections from his latest poetry collection Promises to Keep (Wayfarer Books, 2026), with a Q&A and book signing to follow. Book Synopsis: While receiving dreams and visions, delivering sermons and prayers, frequenting political protests and police stations, being placed in handcuffs and straitjackets, a modern prophet attempts to speak truth to power about immigration, LGBTQAI+ rights, poverty, racism, and the myriad other social issues burning out from marrow to flesh. He hopes to make it home whole, if there is a home left to return to. Through a series of persona poems—channeling the voices of the prophet, his family, God, and others—Promises to Keep explores the fear and trembling and doubt required of faith. It demands that we consider what we devote our lives to, what we say we love, and whether the cost of such devotion is worth it. Writer’s Bio: Matthew E.
