Calling all Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Aunties, and their Allies. We are a group that reads and discusses books in a supportive, friendly atmosphere that focuses on the female perspective. This Month we will discuss The Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley. This Reese's Book Club recommendation is a realistic portrayal of Indigenous people living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan today. Daunis, who is part Ojibwe, defers attending the University of Michigan to care for her mother and reluctantly becomes involved in the investigation of a series of drug-related deaths. For Daunis and her friends and family, one foot is in the modern world of hockey playing college students, and one foot is steeped in ancient Ojibwe tradition.
