Unraveling Winters Wild Tales

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary — 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield, MA

Every animal leaves a trail, and winter is one of the best times to find it. Start in the Nature Center with a track mystery to solve, learning to count toes, spot claw marks, and size up a print. Then head out on about a mile of trail to find the real thing: prints in snow or mud, chewed twigs, tufts of fur, scat, and the diggings that show who has been eating and hunting. Once you know how to track, winter walks will never look the same again. Plan on hiking about a mile over uneven trails that may be snowy or icy, with stops along the way. The program starts indoors and then moves outside, so dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
