Terrific Toddlers: Winter Tracking

Friday, February 12, 2027 · 9:30 AM

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary — 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield, MA

Animals hop, waddle, bound, and pad, and every way of moving leaves a different mark. Now you can learn to tell them apart! After trying out a few animal moves indoors, head outside to search for real footprints, scat, fur, and feathers in snow, mud, and soft ground. You will look at what a single print can tell you, from how many toes an animal has to which direction it was headed. Learning how to track turns any outdoor walk into a treasure hunt that can be repeated all winter long. Plan on a short walk at toddler pace on uneven, possibly snowy trails, with time indoors at the start and finish. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
