Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary — 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield, MA
During school vacation week at Ipswich River, kids take on a different corner of the winter world, with games and activities designed foster curiosity and connection to the outdoors. Kick things off with the art of maple sugaring, from picking a sugar maple out of the forest to tasting syrup at the sugarhouse. Then we'll look for the nests, burrows, and dens animals winter in, building our own shelter based on what we've learned. Read the tracks and chews predators leave behind, find the daytime roosts of local owls, and so much more. At the end of the week, your child will have made the most of February break by exploring outdoors, making new friends, and learning about the world around us. February 16, 2027 (Maple Sugaring)
Every day includes time outdoors on sanctuary trails in whatever winter brings, so dress in warm layers and wear waterproof footwear. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
