Mysterious massive carved stone statues, known as moai, populate the landscape. Rapa Nui is a solitary island in the South Pacific Ocean, midway between Tahiti and Chile. Access to the remote island is from Santiago, Chile. What is the story of the Moai creation? How were they transported to sites on the island? What does the explorer Thor Heyerdahl have to do with the island? Jack Holmes is the owner of "Images From Near and Far" at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. A retired high school teacher, he previously served as President of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association and Gallery Manager of the Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell.
