How to Be a Good Neighbor: Getting Comfortable Engaging with Homeless* Community Members

Monday, November 2, 2026 · 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

West Branch Children's Room (2nd floor) — 40 College Ave., Somerville, MA

Wondering what you can do to help the homeless community in Somerville? Have questions about how to interact with homeless neighbors? Are you afraid you might offend someone or use the wrong language? Or maybe just: why the asterisk after "homeless" in the event title? This training will be an opportunity to learn directly from service providers and get answers to common (and sometimes uncomfortable!) questions. Led by the Somerville Homeless Coalition and the Somerville Public Library Social Work Program, this training will focus on skills and strategies for engaging with neighbors who are experiencing homelessness or spending time on the streets. Want to submit a question for the Q+A? Submit questions with your registration below! Registration is not required, but please register if you would like to receive event notifications.
