On April 13, 1970, the Apollo 13 spacecraft was hurtling through space, damaged and out of control after an explosion in one of the oxygen tanks. What was to be the third Apollo mission to land on the moon instead became a harrowing story of crisis and unlikely survival when, after six days in space, Commander James A. Lovell, Jr., Command Module Pilot John L. Swigert, Jr., and Lunar Module Pilot Fed W. Haise, Jr. returned safely to Earth. 25 years later, Hollywood director Ron Howard brought the incredible story to the big screen with Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and the late Bill Paxton portraying the astronauts. An Oscar nominee for Best Picture and winner for Best Sound and Best Film Editing, the film Apollo 13 was one of the biggest box office successes of 1995! In addition to a screening of the film, Frank Mandosa will offer background context, the facts vs. the fiction, and behind-the-scenes information about the production.
