Saturday, February 6, 2027 · 8:30 AM

Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary — 100 Salem Turnpike, Saugus, MA

Get a rare look at one of the North Shore's best-kept birding secrets! Take a special winter birding walk at Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary in Saugus, a 370-acre grassland that is normally closed to the general public. Overlooking Rumney Marsh, Bear Creek provides critical habitat for nearly 200 bird species and serves as one of the North Shore's largest migration staging areas. Search the grasslands and marsh edges for winter specialties such as Snow Goose, Horned Lark, Snow Bunting, Rough-legged Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, wintering ducks, and perhaps even a Snowy or Short-eared Owl. After the walk, warm up with hot cocoa and snacks. This program takes place at Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary in Saugus rather than at Drumlin Farm, with drop-off and pick-up off-sanctuary. Bear Creek sits on the WIN Waste property and must be entered with the designated escort. Expect a three-mile walk through snowy paths and fields in cold weather. Snacks and hot cocoa afterward are included. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
