Learn about one of the Boston Harbor Islands in this month's Reel Talk feature, The Last Islander (2026) . Meet Mike McDevitt, the only full-time resident of Peddocks Island in Boston harbor. Following the death of his sister Chrissy, the state is threatening to tear their family home down. Mike promised his sister he would save it. The film was selected for inclusion at the New Bedford Film Festival and won Best Subject. At the Big Apple Film Festival in NYC, The Last Islander won Best Short Documentary. Recently, the documentary was selected for the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival. After the screening, there will be a panel with the filmmaker Joe Berkely and tugboat captain Mike McDevitt.
