Fred Dobbs (Bogart) is a penniless drifter looking for work in Mexico. He teams up with fellow drifter Curtin (Holt) and an old prospector Howard (W. Huston) to find gold in the nearby mountains. As they gather more and more gold, Dobbs becomes paranoid and accuses his partners of stealing from him. He ignores their denials and spirals into madness. Will he resort to murder so he can get away with the treasure? Part of our Fall 2026 Film Series celebrating Humphrey Bogart. Also starring Tim Holt, Walter Huston, and Bruce Bennett. Huston won Best Supporting Actor, and his son, John Huston, won the Oscars for Best Director and Best Screenplay. This film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
