Andrew Noone's book details the freedom fight of two enslaved workers (1781-83) whose legal battles resulted in their emancipation, making our state the first to ban slavery unconditionally. Massachusetts observed its first Quock Walker Day (July 8) in 2023. His cases were litigated at the second Worcester County courthouse (1751), which still stands. Richard Bell of the University of Maryland College Park writes “…a vivid narrative of courage, law, and the radical promise of liberty.”
