Winter Birds of the Beverly/Salem area

Saturday, January 16, 2027 · 7:30 AM

Joppa Flats Education Center — 1 Plum Island Tpke, Newburyport, MA

We're venturing to a part of the North Shore we haven't explored before: the coast between Beverly and Salem, which fills with birds in winter. Travel by Mass Audubon van to a series of coastal stops, including West Beach and David S. Lynch Park, in search of sea ducks, shorebirds, gulls, and whatever else the season has pushed onto the water. Sharpen your field identification, cross some birds off your life list, and get a clearer sense of what wintering bird populations tell us about a changing climate. The program meets at Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport and travels by Mass Audubon van to the Beverly and Salem coast. Expect to walk areas with moderate terrain changes at a slow pace, for a mile or more, on ground that may be snowy. More details on meeting location, what to bring, and what to expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
