Joppa Flats Education Center — 1 Plum Island Tpke, Newburyport, MA
Where are we going? We do not know yet. This all-day adventure goes after the rarest birds within a two-hour drive of Newburyport, and the destination is chosen that morning based on the latest bird sighting reports. That might mean New Hampshire for winter finches like Pine Grosbeaks, Red and White-winged Crossbills, and Common Redpolls, the South Shore for an uncommon gull such as an Ivory Gull, or central Massachusetts for boreal species such as Canada Jay. This is your chance to cross a rare bird of your life list. This trip departs from Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport and travels by Mass Audubon van, with a midday stop to warm up and eat. Expect to walk at a slow pace over moderate terrain for a mile or more. More details on meeting location, what to bring, and what to expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
