Teen Birders: Wintering Birds at Broadmoor

Sunday, December 6, 2026 · 8:00 AM

Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary — 280 Eliot St., Natick, MA

In December, the marshes, ponds, forests, and fields are alive with winter bird activity. Scan the ponds for wintering ducks like Bufflehead, search the brushy edges for secretive Fox Sparrow and Rusty Blackbird, and listen for Winter Wren scolding from a tangle of roots near the water. This is a great chance to see how the bird life persists into the winter while connecting with other teen nature enthusiasts. Meet at Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary at 280 Eliot St., Natick. Bring water and a snack. Bring binoculars if you have them, or ask to borrow a pair of ours. Dress warmly in layers; wear hiking boots with tread appropriate for trails that may be muddy or snowy. Restrooms are available at the visitor center.
