Bird is the word! Join us for a guided outdoor birding program where you’ll learn how to observe and identify local bird species. With six and a half miles of trails winding through 491 acres of varied terrain, Rocky Woods offers a remarkable diversity of wildlife and is an ideal destination for birding. Participants can expect a relaxed pace with frequent stops for observation. This program is suitable for both beginners and experienced birders. About your guide: Mike McCarthy is a Trustees volunteer who currently monitors bird nest boxes at the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, MA. He previously worked as a fish and wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and as an endangered shorebird biologist with the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program and the National Park Service on Outer Cape Cod. In addition to his involvement with The Trustees, Mike volunteers with Mass Audubon’s Coastal Breeding Bird Monitoring Program and the Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary.
