Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary — 500 Walk Hill St., Mattapan, MA

Winter strips trees down to their buds, bark, and branches, which makes it the best season to learn them. Walk the Boston Nature Center trails and get to know the towering giants you pass every day. Learn how texture, shape, and growth pattern reveal a tree's place in the ecosystem, along with the natural and cultural stories these trees carry. Leave with simple tools and tips for recognizing the trees in your own neighborhood, plus a deeper understanding of what makes them so special. This program is free for Dot Rx members. Email [email protected] to register. The trails are flat and easy to walk or navigate with a mobility device, though surfaces may be slippery from snow or ice at this time of year. The program includes an outdoor walk on the sanctuary trails. In the event of severe weather conditions, the program may be cancelled or postponed. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
