Edward Hopper on Cape Cod - An illustrated talk with Bob Seay The famed painter Edward Hopper spent 30 summers on Cape Cod where he created some of his most beautiful sketches, watercolors and oil paintings. He and his wife Jo lived in Truro where they had built a home and studio in 1934. There he painted dozens of notable works, but also roamed throughout the outer Cape sketching and painting the buildings and landscapes that attracted his attention. What he painted on the lower cape has been the subject of my talks over the past 10 years. Hundreds of people have attended what has become a popular annual event in Eastham. Many of them have contributed to my research by identifying the houses and locations he used in his paintings. All of those talks have been presented in Eastham’s Chapel in the Pines which is the subject of one of Hopper's watercolors ). Those who attended said they learned about aspects of Hopper’s life and work that they were unaware of and what they saw and heard enhanced their appreciation and understanding of his work.
