Research has shown us that writing is good for memory and recall, and problem-solving as we age. Writing about our past helps to solidify and broaden the memories in our brains. But where do we start? Our first memories is a possibility. What are the first things that you can remember after you were born? The best way to write your memories is…One story at a time, and one paragraph at a time. They must engage a reader. Taken together, your paragraphs must have a flow. We ALL have childhood memories. When I started writing my memoirs about 10 years ago, I began with my earliest memories as a young child. Once I had written down my remembrances of my earliest experiences, such as riding on a train, where I went, and who was there at our destination, another memory came to mind of my aunt, who was 9 months older than I was. This type of experience happened again and again. Once I began to write, about a certain event or period in my life, other memories and the people and details there and then came to mind. Details became a little clearer. It could be a detail that you did not think about when you wrote the first draft. After writing about going to see the Harlem Globetrotters when…
