Anthony Apesos will discuss the transition in European art of the fifteenth century to oil painting from egg tempera and fresco painting. He will present a slide lecture to explain why this new medium so quickly replaced earlier techniques and will demonstrate how egg tempera and oil paint are made and the differences in how they were employed by artists. Registration is Required. About the Presenter: Anthony Apesos, Professor Emeritus at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is an artist and art historian. His paintings can be seen at apesos.com . His published writings include studies on Titian, Caravaggio, Velazquez, and Michelangelo plus several papers on William Blake. He is the author of Anatomy for Artists: A New Approach to Discovering, Learning and Remembering the Body (2007) and The Long Desired Medium: The History of Oil Painting (2024). He is currently writing a book on William Blake's paintings of the Last Judgment. An exhibition of this tarot paintings is on display at Midway Gallery at Midway Artist Studios through September.
