Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary — 472 W Mountain Rd., Lenox, MA

Deepen your connection to winter on monthly weekend adventures with a skilled Mass Audubon naturalist and a curious community of adults. This three-month series covers the best of winter. You will look for signs of wild canines and felines, learn how animals and plants adapt to snow and ice, and meet the weasel family that stays active all winter. Sessions begin with an indoor introduction before heading out for extended time in the field, and topics may shift with what nature provides. You will grow your natural history knowledge, sharpen your observation skills, and leave with new ways to notice and care for the habitats that make the Berkshires special.

January: Wild Canines and Felines

February: Snow, Ice, and Winter Survival

March: Weasels, Otters, and Other Mustelids Each session begins with an introduction indoors and then moves outside for at least 90 minutes in the field. You will travel mainly on trails and boardwalks while actively exploring winter habitats, so plan for extended time outdoors. Trail surfaces may be uneven or slippery from snow, mud, or ice at this time of year. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
