Calling all mushroom enthusiasts! Interested in learning how to identify mushrooms and other delicious local wild edibles? Join experienced forager, Diana Burnell, for a Mushroom Walk along the interconnected trails of Whitney and Thayer Woods, Weir River Farm, and Turkey Hill! This walk is perfect for the forager/mushroom enthusiast, outdoor enthusiast, foodie or vegetarian. We will review how to properly identify mushrooms and wild edibles, discuss sustainable harvesting and local laws, and collect specimens to study. Learn 15-20 mushroom species that are available now, as well as a variety of non-edible/poisonous fungi, plants and herbs. This will be an easy to moderate walk along dirt trails with slight inclines in some areas. The path taken will be determined based on where the most mushrooms can be found at the time of the walk. Possible routes include trails that through parts of the interconnected Weir River Farm, Whitney and Thayer Woods, and Turkey Hill locations.
