Pioneer Valley Cappella, led by music director Scott Halligan performs its fall program, “Pathfinding” on November 20, 7:30PM. “The program is a meditation on paths we follow, paths we regret, paths we are called by, paths that consume us, paths we abandon, and paths we discover on life’s journey”. It includes Three Elizabethan Part Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams; Sacred music by Charles Villiers Stanford: “Justorum Animae” with sacred text from The Book of Wisdom; “Fern Hill,” with poetry by Dylan Thomas and music by composer John Corigliano: a classic inviting us on a path of bittersweet nostalgia for lost youthful innocence. The program also includes a North American premier: “Crude (oil),” by the English composer Bernard Hughes and text by the poet Andrew George. The program closes with “Untraveled Worlds” by Paul Halley, which sets text from “Ulysses” by Alfred Lord Tennyson. “The music drives us forward and urges us to continue seeking, exploring, pathfinding.”
