Mapping Memory: Magnolia's Community Photo Scanning Event

Sunday, November 22, 2026 · 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Magnolia Historical Society — 46 Magnolia Ave., Gloucester, MA

Join the Magnolia Historical Society and the Sawyer Free Library for a special community event celebrating Magnolia’s history, memories, and sense of place. As part of Mapping Memory: Gloucester’s Neighborhood Oral History Project, residents are invited to bring up to three photographs—historic or contemporary—that capture what Magnolia means to them. Photos will be scanned on-site and immediately returned to their owners. With participants’ permission, digital copies will become part of the Mapping Memory collection, a growing community archive and online exhibition documenting Gloucester’s neighborhoods through the stories and images of the people who know them best. The afternoon will begin with a presentation of historic Magnolia postcards by Albert Steg, followed by a brief introduction to the Mapping Memory project. Community photo scanning will take place afterward, offering participants the opportunity to contribute their own images and help preserve Magnolia’s history for future generations. This event will take place at the Magnolia Historical Society, 46 Magnolia Avenue.
