Join Cape Cod author, naturalist, and environmental advocate Susan Baur for a conversation about her new memoir, Swimming with Turtles. When Baur first slipped into a Cape Cod pond with a snorkel, she was simply looking for a swim. Beneath the surface, however, she discovered a remarkable world of water lilies, freshwater jellies, minnows, and turtles. Learning to move slowly enough to observe these creatures became both a discipline and a source of unexpected joy. Over nearly two decades, Baur’s experiences in the ponds helped her navigate love and loss, inspired her Turtle Sisters children’s book series, and led her to establish Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage (OLAUG). With humor, tenderness, and a naturalist’s eye, Swimming with Turtles explores the solace and wonder that await when we slow down, look closely, and immerse ourselves in the natural world. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. This program is free and open to the public.
