Winter Birding Along Barnstable Harbor

Saturday, January 30, 2027 · 8:00 AM

Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary — 345 Bone Hill Rd., Cummaquid, MA

Think winter is a slow season for birds on Cape Cod? Think again. Ducks, loons, and grebes crowd the open water throughout the winter and into early spring. A Long Pasture naturalist will get you close to them, beginning at the sanctuary and continuing wherever the birding is best that morning. Learn to identify these winter visitors by their shape, posture, and behavior, and discover how they depend on the Cape's rich coastal habitats. Expect to walk up to 1.5 miles. The morning starts at the sanctuary and then continues at nearby birding spots reached by car, with the destination depending on where the birds are that day. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
