Give Your Well-Loved Books New Life Have a favorite book with torn pages, a loose cover, or a minor binding problem? Bring it to our Book Repair Workshop and learn how to give it a second chance! Join book conservator Luisa Granitto for a hands-on demonstration of simple mending techniques using archival tape, glue (PVA), and paste (methyl cellulose). Participants may bring one or two books needing minor repairs and learn how to mend torn pages and loose hinges. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn how to make an archival “phase box” for a family heirloom that needs protecting. The workshop is for minor repairs only. Books with brittle paper, loose pages, or completely detached covers require specialized equipment and more advanced conservation techniques should not be brought to the workshop. Luisa Granitto is a certified book conservator with over 40 years of experience in bookbinding, repair, and preservation. She has a Master’s in Library Science from Simmons College and completed the Bookbinding certification program at North Bennet Street School.
