Join Randall Warniers for a "Gulliver’s Travels at 300, A talk celebrating the 300th anniversary of the first publication of Jonathan Swift’s beloved—and brilliant—18th-century satire". Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift is a classic satirical novel that follows fictional ship’s surgeon Lemuel Gulliver on four fantastical voyages. The book was first published in London in October 1726, and has remained popular, in print, and controversial ever since. It is considered one of the truly great literary works of the 18th-century. Through Gulliver’s encounters with tiny people, giants, talking horses, and flawed societies, Swift masterfully mocks 18th-century politics, human nature, and the limits of human reason. This talk will be one of many tributes during this anniversary year to the lasting appeal of an enduring book.
