Cyanotypes are a printing technique used in photography and print making. The materials used react to sunlight/UV light and create beautiful blue and white prints. In this introductory workshop, we'll use plant materials, pre-printed photo negatives, and other found materials to create unique art to take home. We'll cover a brief overview of the history of cyanotype, how the chemistry works, look at examples of the results achieved with different techniques (including 'wet' cyanotypes and over-concentration of emulsion) before diving into creating our prints. Artists will use pre-treated paper, as well learn to prepare watercolor paper using the base chemicals to prep sheets you can take home so you can keep up your cyanotype art making at home! No cyanotype or art experience required - just a willingness to create! Cyanotype emulsion is an easily controlled material, but you may want to dress for spills/splatters just in case , as exposed emulsion is not easily washable.
