Join us in celebrating Irish American Heritage Month at the Library with well travelled songs and stories from Ireland and beyond! Boston-based Matt & Shannon Heaton are ambassadors of Irish music. Their flute and guitar instrumentals and tight harmony singing draw deeply from the tune and song traditions of Ireland, and also incorporate new influences from America and beyond. The two met in Chicago before relocating to Medford, Massachusetts in 2001. They've spent many winters in Ireland, performed all over Shannon’s childhood home of Thailand, and have appeared on stages throughout North America, Europe and Japan. Shannon was named Massachusetts Artist Fellow in 2016. Matt has received multiple awards for his music for kids and families. The Boston Globe wrote of the Heatons, ”their playing is masterful and inventive, their arrangements city-smart and spacious.
