To mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Boston Public Library's Community History Department partnered with Revolutionary Spaces to offer a free and public program series called "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Named for the unalienable rights identified in the Declaration—rights that inherently belong to all human beings, and that governments are created to protect—these programs brought people together to explore, question, and find inspiration in the Declaration of Independence. During two printmaking workshops--offered in partnership with the Arts Department and local artist Crystalle Lacouture —and four declaration writing workshops, library visitors reflected on the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Displayed together, the art prints and writing pieces made by community members speak to the ongoing American struggle to create and sustain a free society.
