The Poetry of Elizabeth Bishop: A Reading and Discussion Group Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979) is one of the most important American poets of the 20th century. We will read a selection of her poems, study her finely crafted descriptions of the natural world, and explore her underlying themes of longing and grief, and her struggles with belonging as an outsider and a very private person.
