Habitat Education Center and Wildlife Sanctuary — 10 Juniper Rd., Belmont, MA
As the sun goes down, Habitat comes alive with a different set of residents, and owls are among the most spectacular. Start inside the Nature Center to look at owl wings, skulls, talons, and feathers, discovering the amazing adaptations that make them master hunters in the dark. Then, head out into the night, listening and looking for Eastern Screech-owls, Barred Owls, and Great Horned Owls as they begin their evening activities. A naturalist will guide you every step of the way, sharing owl calls, behaviors, and the best tricks for spotting them in the trees. In addition, find out what issues modern owls are facing and what you do to support them at home. The program begins indoors in the Nature Center and continues outdoors on a night hike through fields and forest trails. You will be walking in low light. More details on what to bring and expect will be emailed to you ahead of the program.
